My interest in photography has existed for as long as I can remember. It started with a Kodak Ektralite 10 I found in my grandparents house as a kid, granted at the time it did not take pictures and I wound up using it as a spaceship most of the time… but still pretended to take pictures of things I wanted to remember.
Fast forward to my teenage years and me fiddling around with the family DSLR again not knowing anything about how to take a proper picture but still intrigued nonetheless and taking pictures of things I felt should be remembered. It was during this time in my life that I decided to join the Army which lead to me meeting war correspondents during my tours in Iraq. Learning from their experiences and guidance during what little downtime we had I was able to grasp the basic concepts of photography and some key “do’s” and “don’ts”.
Coming home to the explosion of entry level DSLRs and drones led me to websites like 500px, British Journal of Photography and SkyPixel. These websites only further encouraged me to find a way to break into photography on my own, so after pilfering a Canon 7D from the family I decided to finally start my photography journey.
